India vs west Indies, 1st Test : Day 1 Stumps, Full Match Report

The opening day of the first Test  India vs West Indies , visitors struggle with the bat as they were bundled out for just 162 runs in 44.1 overs. The Indian pace and spin attack combined effectively to expose the batting frailties of the Caribbean side.

West Indies’ innings never really gained momentum after a shaky start. John Campbell (8) fell early to Jasprit Bumrah, while Tagenarine Chanderpaul was dismissed for a duck by Mohammed Siraj. Alick Athanaze (12) and Brandon King (13) tried to counter-attack but couldn’t build on their starts, both falling cheaply as Siraj struck twice in quick succession.

Skipper Roston Chase (24 off 43) and wicketkeeper Shai Hope (26 off 36) attempted to stabilize the innings with some crisp strokes, but neither could convert their promising starts into a big score. The middle order showed vulnerability against disciplined Indian bowling. Justin Greaves provided the most resistance with a composed 32 off 48 balls, hitting four boundaries, but he too fell to Bumrah just when he looked set to anchor the innings.

The lower order offered little fight. Khary Pierre (11) tried to hang in before being trapped lbw by Washington Sundar, while Warrican (8) became one of Kuldeep Yadav’s two victims. Johann Layne managed only a single, Jayden Seales unbeaten on 6 as the innings folded for 162.

For India, the bowlers worked as a collective unit. Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowler, taking 4/40 in 14 overs and rattling the top order. Jasprit Bumrah also grabbed 3 scalps, maintaining relentless pressure. Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with 2 important wickets, while Sundar gets 1 wicket .

India’s openers began their reply with purpose, determined to cut down the deficit and put the West Indies bowlers under pressure. Yashasvi Jaiswal looked fluent, striking seven boundaries in his knock of 36 runs from 54 balls. His aggressive intent set the tone early on, though his stay was cut short when Jayden Seales induced an edge that was smartly taken by Shai Hope.

Sai Sudharsan, making his mark in the lineup, struggled to settle. He could manage only 7 runs from 19 balls before falling lbw to Roston Chase, leaving India at a slightly shaky position with two wickets down.

KL Rahul played the anchor role to perfection. Displaying immense patience, Rahul soaked up 114 balls for his 53 runs, hitting six boundaries,By holding one end, he ensured India moved closer to the West Indies total without slipping into trouble.

Shubman Gill, captaining the side, remained not out on 18 off 42 balls at stumps. Though he hasn’t shifted gears yet, his composed presence alongside Rahul gives India hope of building a commanding lead on Day 2. The partnership between Rahul and Gill, already steady, will be key for India to take control of the match.

At the end of day 1 india 121/2
