South Africa winning the toss and Opted to bat first,Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton showed patience and discipline against India’s pace attack of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Both bowlers tried hard in the morning, but the opening pair managed to survive and slowly build a solid start.

At this point, captain Temba Bavuma joined Tristan Stubbs, who had been promoted up the order for this match. Together, they began rebuilding the innings with calm heads and smart batting. They defended well against spin, rotated the strike with singles, and waited for loose balls. Their partnership grew to 84 runs, taking South Africa past 150 and putting them back on top.

But India continued to fight. Ravindra Jadeja ended this important stand when Bavuma tried to loft a delivery but mistimed it straight to Yashasvi Jaiswal at mid-off. The South African captain walked back for 41 off 92 balls, and India sensed an opportunity.

The final session of the day was controlled by India, especially by the excellent bowling of Kuldeep Yadav. Tristan Stubbs, who had been showing great patience throughout his innings, fell just one run short from fifty. Kuldeep made the ball drift and turn, and Stubbs edged a catch to slip for 49 off 112 balls, leaving South Africa at 187/4.

Soon after, Wiaan Mulder tried to counterattack. He hit a few aggressive shots but eventually mistimed one straight to Jaiswal at mid-off, giving Kuldeep his third wicket of the day. Mulder short stay ended at 13 off 18 balls, and South Africa once again found themselves under pressure.

As the second new ball became available, India brought back their fast bowlers. Mohammed Siraj made the most of the harder ball, bowling with sharp pace and movement. He dismissed Tony de Zorzi, who had looked comfortable on 28 runs off 59 deliveries. Siraj found the outside edge, and Pant completed another clean catch behind the stumps.

At the end of the Play South reached 247/6 in 81.5 overs.
