India vs Australia: Mathew Short and Cooper Connolly guide Australia to take unassailable lead

The second ODI India vs Australia at the Adelaide Oval turned into a nerve-wracking contest, with Australia edging past India by two wickets to seal the three-match series 2-0.

Batting first after losing the toss, India managed to post 264 for 9 in 50 overs, a total built around composure and recovery. The innings began on a shaky note as Shubman Gill (12) and Virat Kohli departed on golden duck , leaving India reeling at 17 for 2 in the first seven overs.

Rohit Sharma stabilizing the innings with a well-crafted 73 off 97 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. Partnering him, Shreyas Iyer looked fluent on his way to 61 off 77 deliveries, and the pair’s 118-run stand brought India back into the contest.

Once both set batters departed, Australia clawed back through disciplined bowling. Axar Patel tried to some resistance but fell on 44.  Late contributions from Arshdeep Singh (13) and Harshit Rana (24) helped India cross the 260 mark, ensuring they had something to defend.

Chasing 265 was never going to be easy against India’s disciplined attack, and Australia’s start reflected that. Arshdeep Singh provided early breakthroughs, dismissing Mitchell Marsh (11) and Travis Head (28), while Matt Renshaw added 30 crucial runs and 55 runs stand with short.

Matthew Short and Cooper Connolly turned the game around. Short, displaying excellent timing and patience, top-scored with 74 off 84 balls, while Connolly remained unbeaten with a match-winning 61 not out off 53 balls. Their partnership of  55 runs for the fifth wicket shifted the momentum firmly in Australia’s favor while Mitchell owen added quickfire 36 off 23 and 59 run stand with Connolly ensure Australia win .

Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh and Washington Sundar took 2 wickets each while Axar Patel and Mohammad Siraj get 1 wicket each.
