In a thrilling Nepal Premier League (NPL) clash Biratnagar kings vs Karnali Yaks,at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Stadium in Kirtipur, the Biratnagar Kings held their nerve to defeat the Karnali Yaks by three wickets in a dramatic final-over finish. The 16th match of the tournament turned into one of the most exciting encounters so far, The hero of the match was Basir Ahamad, who produced a fighting, unbeaten half-century to guide his team home.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Karnali Yaks innings did not begin smoothly, as opener Mark Watt fell early for just six runs in the third over. His wicket brought together Priyank Panchal and William Bosisto, who became the main architects of the Yaks batting and put together 96 runs stand.
Panchal played the anchor role beautifully, scoring a composed 63 off 47 balls, sprinkled with six boundaries and two clean sixes. Bosisto was solid at the other end, staying unbeaten on 48 runs from 48 balls. The duo rotating the strike well and keep scoreboard ticking in the middle overs. Their partnership gave the Yaks the stability.
Late acceleration came from Gulshan Jha played a cameo, smashing 20 off 10 balls, including some Najibullah Zadran also chipped in with an unbeaten 12 off 6 balls, helping the team finish strong.
Karnali Yaks put up a competitive total of 160 for 3 in their 20 overs.
For the Biratnagar Kings, captain Sandeep Lamichhane stood out with the ball. He was the most economical bowler of the innings, giving only 24 runs in his four overs and picking up one wicket. Marchant de Lange also claimed a wicket but was so expensive.
Chasing 161, the Kings began their innings under pressure and were immediately pushed onto the back foot. They suffered early blows in the powerplay, losing three important wickets for in quick succession. Opener George Munsey was dismissed for a duck, followed closely by the dismissals of Lokesh Bam (6) and Sam Heazlett(16).
While, Sahil Patel, who was trying to rebuild the innings, was removed for 19. His wicket left the team struggling at 63 for 4, and the chase appeared to be slipping away rapidly. That is when Basir Ahamad stepped up and displayed outstanding maturity, mixing calm stroke-play with calculated risks. He remained unbeaten on 62 from 43 balls, an innings that included three fours and three towering sixes, Narayan Joshi joined Ahamad, Joshi played a valuable hand, scoring 25 off 16 balls, giving the chase much-needed momentum . Their 69 runs partnership brought the Kings back into the contest.
Even though wickets continued to fall around him in the final overs, Ahamad stayed calm and focused. With ten runs required off the last over, t Ahamad, along with the lower order, ensured there were no mistakes, and the winning runs were scored on the second-last ball of the match.
