At the other end, Shadman Islam looked fluent during his knock of 80 runs from 104 balls, hitting 10 fours. His dismissal, caught off Matthew Humphreys, ended a strong opening stand but had already placed Bangladesh firmly on top.
Mominul Haque joined Joy at the crease and ensured that Bangladesh momentum never wavered. Playing with characteristic calmness, Mominul punished anything loose and rotated the strike smartly to maintain pressure on the Irish bowlers.
