Australia have officially announced their 15-member squad for the much-anticipated first Ashes Test 2025 against England, which will be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth from November 21, 2025. The announcement has stirred excitement among cricket fans as the team features a mix of experienced stars and fresh talents ready to take on the traditional rivals in one of cricket’s oldest and most intense battles.
Steve Smith will lead the side after Pat Cummins was ruled out due to a back injury.
One of the most surprising inclusions in the squad is Jake Weatherald, the uncapped South Australian opener. His selection came after consistent performances in domestic cricket, where he impressed selectors with his aggressive batting and temperament against the new ball. The move signals a fresh approach by the selection panel, aiming to strengthen Australia’s top order.
The batting lineup looks solid with Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne anchoring the top order, supported by Travis Head’s aggressive style at number five. Alex Carey is expected to retain his wicketkeeping duties, while Josh Inglis provides a capable backup. Smith’s presence in the middle order ensures both leadership and reliability. While Cameron Green and Beau Webster add more balance with all round ability.
The pace trio Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Scott Boland ,while Sean Abbott and Brendan Doggett add depth and variety to the fast-bowling attack. Nathan Lyon will provide spin option.
