Asia Cup 2025: Bangladesh Edge Afghanistan by 8 Runs in Thrilling Contest

Bangladesh secured a nail-biting victory over Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2025, clinching the game by just 8 runs to keep their tournament hopes alive. In a fiercely contested clash, the Tigers displayed composure under pressure, while Afghanistan fell short despite a spirited chase.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh decided to bat first, Openers gives a steady start in powerplay without loss any wicket but Rashid khan strike vary first over after the powerplay bowled saif Hassan on 30 off 26 balls. But on other hand Tanzid Hasan who play shots despite lossing wickets he played half century knock 52 off 31 balls with help of his innings and in middle order Tawhid Hirdoy 26 off 20 balls Bangladesh put competitive total 154 in 20 overs.

Afghanistan innings

Afghanistan’s chase of 155 began on a shaky note as Sediqullah Atal fell in the very first over, putting early pressure on the side. The setback deepened when Ibrahim Zadran once again failed to deliver, continuing his poor run in the tournament. Rahmanullah Gurbaz tried to steady the innings 35 off 31 balls with a few aggressive strokes, but his dismissal  further dented Afghanistan’s momentum.

The middle order, including Najibullah Zadran and Mohammad Nabi, attempted to rebuild, but Bangladesh’s bowlers kept striking at crucial intervals. Wickets at regular stages prevented. Azmatullah omarzai showed some fight 30 off 16 balls but required run rate climbed steeply.

Entering the final over, Afghanistan needed quick boundaries but managed only singles, finishing on 146/10 in 20 overs, falling short by 8 runs. Their inconsistent batting ultimately cost them a winnable game.

This result is a significant boost for Bangladesh, who now stand in a stronger position to qualify for the Super 4 stage. For Afghanistan, the narrow defeat increases the stakes in their upcoming matches, leaving little room for error if they are to progress.
